Background

Fowles Skip Hire are long-established, family-run business with a large processing facility in Wraysbury. Their primary services include skip hire, waste management and haulage/transport. Fowles contacted us looking for a partner who could assist with revamping their online presence and implementing solutions to generate more business and automate their ordering process.

The skip hire industry is typically very ‘old school’ when it comes to branding and marketing and Fowles tasked us with creating a new experience for customers online. The key focus was to ensure that the new website was clean, clear and simple for visitors to use, whilst implementing new functionality which would allow customers to instantly check prices and book online in just a few minutes. The existing website was built on a very old platform and the design was very dated, causing visitors to often view the site and leave (a high bounce rate) as it looked like the business may have been untrustworthy.

The Outcome

There is a mixed target audience for the website – from homeowners looking to do a household clearance to builders and property developers who are working on large construction projects. A particular focus was put on the mobile experience as many customers are often on-site or travelling at the time when they need to order a skip, so it was important to ensure the design was mobile-first.

The new website features an intuitive price checker and online booking system which allows Fowles to configure their pricing based on different skip sizes, postcodes and types of skip all from their online dashboard. Prices for waste disposal regularly change and the new system allows their internal team to change prices in just a few clicks.

Being an existing website, our focus has been to ensure that the website has been carefully built to ensure that there was no loss of search engine rankings (and instead improvements!) when it was put live.

Since the launch of the new website design, local SEO rankings have improved and our client has seen a steady increase in sales. Most notably, the new ordering system has enabled Fowles to increase their profit margins as a result of the daily hours saved on staff no longer needed to process orders via the telephone, making a 100% return on their investment with us in just 8 weeks!
